Power Entertainment

Power Entertainment co-produces, finances, acquires and globally distributes drama and factual programming across multiple platforms. I led the design of the new website for Power, which needed both a visual refresh to incorporate new branding, and an improved user experience to enhance their offering to new and existing clients.

Homepage

The Power homepage was designed to highlight new and featured programmes to both new and existing clients. Additionally, visitors can link directly to the programme types (Drama & Factual) where filters and search can be used to find programmes based on different criteria. The primary site navigation, login, account links and search remain fixed at the top of the page to provide quick access to these tools at all times.

Programme listing (Search / Filter)

Searching for programmes was a particular pain point on the previous version of the site. The programmes are now listed clearly with few distractions, allowing users to focus on the just the programme title, image and introduction.

In addition to the improved search functionality, filters were also added allowing users to fine tune their programme requirements. If a particular filter was applied we also provided users with a handy indicator of the number of programmes that would be returned. Furthermore, as users selected a filter, only the filters that provided further refinement were available to select.

Login / Register

With the exception of the programme listing, most of the site’s functionality is tucked away in the secure client login area. A lightbox approach was utilised for the login credentials, together with the forgot password function. Prospective clients could also request access to the site as they needed to be approved by a sales representative.

My Account: Programmes

For registered clients with the appropriate permissions, access to programme materials could be gained by requesting them on the programme detail page. Once access is permitted, clients can see their available programmes in this listing, and at a glance understand how long before their access was due to expire. A simple colour coding system was used to highlight those programmes nearing expiry, and those with more time available.

Requested and expired programmes are initially presented in a collapsed accordion, placing emphasis on those programmes they could currently access.

My Account: Programmes (No programmes to show)

When a client does not currently have access to any programmes, an appropriate message is displayed with instructions on how to request access.

My Account: Screeners

Screeners, similar to programmes, must be requested by registered clients before access is granted. Screeners also have a limited access time, hence the same colour coding system is used here for consistency. Screeners however, differ from programme access as they provide clients with the ability to watch the actual programme, whether it be a movie or TV series. Sorting and pagination has been implemented here allowing users to readily browse their screeners.

My Account: Favourites

We all love a favourites or wish list. Here, favourites allow registered clients the ability to save programmes into a list that can then be easily sorted and managed. In addition to being a place where programmes of interest can be saved, it also acts as a to-do list where bulk actions can be applied to multiple favourited programmes, such as requesting access to the programme or screener, or requesting to be contacted by a sales representative.

Additional information is presented to the user, such as if the programme has been updated since their last visit, if they have access or requested access to the programme, and when it was added as a favourite.

The Screening Room: Available Screeners

For registered clients with the appropriate permissions, the ‘Screening Room’ is where full length movies and TV series are accessed and watched. All of the programmes users have access to are listed here, and link through to the full programme page (below). Related programmes are also featured, encouraging users to request access to more programmes. This area of the site was design to have a more cinematic feel.

The Screening Room: Watch Screener

This is where the action happens. Users with access to screeners watch them here, as well as learn more about the programme, whether it be a TV series with multiple episodes or a movie. If a screener has been partially watched, users can see where they need to pick it up from with the information provided, as well as a reminder of how much longer they maintain access to it. A contact sales link is presented here as a key call to action.

Mobile Version

A dedicated mobile version of the site was produced to focus on presenting key site features to users on the go, however much of the sites desktop functionality remained. The layout is simplified further whilst ensuring buttons and links are easy targets for tapping.
